    Can't be Gannett. Ganny eds would simply look at who's making the most money and target them... then pocket the bonus.

    Exactly. The cuts would have already occurred. The meeting would have been over how to - or how not to - announce the cuts to the survivors on staff and how the suits were going to share the bonuses doled out as a result of the cuts.
