If there ever was a chain that shouldn't be doing this, it's CNHI. Damn, now I'm convinced more than ever that chains are doing this because its "the thing" to do.

Agreed. Most of those shops don't have a guy to back up the police beat reporter who's on furlough.

Not true. The CNHI papers I've worked at were both 40-hour papers.

lol you'd think it can't get worse than gannett. Having worked for both, CNHI is BY FAR the worst. They're horrible; completely pathetic.

Just heading to the office now and, unfortunately, I was correct on both counts:

    1) We must turn in our list of "days" by March 22...

    2) My name is indeed mud for breaking the news a day before our honchos wanted it out.

Fun times await me tonight, for sure... oh well. Won't be the first time.

My wife and I were able to break the news to an old friend (and presumably, the rest of the office) yesterday, and they got the meeting today. Nice.

  8. I was told by my boss while we were picking up our kids at school.

    Same here.

My rag is among the company's more profitable papers and I thought we'd be out of the clear.

Nope. My "five days" are due early next week.

    F***.

My mom works for the city of Seattle and they have done furloughs three or four times and may do them again.

Mine works for the state of Georgia. Same thing. Hers are generally only a day at a time, though.
