I saw this on the Minor League site and was pretty much blown away. Last year, the site ran player journals and for the most part, they were pretty dull and lifeless. This year, along comes Fernando Perez, an outfielder in the D-Rays system from the beautiful, peaceful burg of Elizabeth, NJ and a Columbia grad. If there was a player that could seriously become a sports writer, he'd be one. Check it out:

  2. That was really good.

    I'll be rooting for him.

(He should try to start fewer paragraphs with the word "I" though - pet peeve of mine)

  3. Don't know about the "sports," but he's already a writer.

    I agree.

I don't like the use of the word "I" at the beginning of a graph/

I think it makes the writer look egotistical.

    I surmise you agree?

    I don't know that I agree.

I haven't made up my mind.

I will let you know when I do.

I have no idea what's going on here.

I am not, however, completely in love with your tone right now.

I'll have the roast duck, with the mango salsa.

I'm not in love with this threadjacking.

I probably would have gone in another direction.

I can't understand why anyone would participate in it.

Now that's how -- in a perfect world at least -- a spring training diary should read. Again, great find.
