This perpetrator had to know the family well.

How else would he know she still lived there 24 years later?

DES MOINES, Iowa (Sept. 2) - The mother of a boy abducted 24 years ago said she's bewildered by two photographs left at her front door, apparently showing her son and two other children bound and gagged.

The old photos appear to show 12-year-old Johnny Gosch with his mouth gagged and his hands and feet tied. The boy is wearing the same sweatpants Johnny was wearing when he disappeared while delivering newspapers on the morning of Sept. 5, 1982, his mother said.

    That is frightening.

The boy contacted his mother in 1997, 15 years after he was abducted, but couldn't give her details about where he was. He would have been 27 years old then, but was still being held captive.

And now, 24 years after he was taken, the kidnapper is playing games like this.

I can't imagine what it would be like for this kid's mother, knowing her son is out there somewhere for all this time. She raised him for 12 years, and he's been missing for 24 now.

God... maybe it is the 36-year-old brainwashed "kid" leaving the picture.

I was in high school when that happened and I knew a few people who knew Gosch's older brother. He was kidnapped just down the street from his house.

About two years later another paperboy was kidnapped in a similar fashion in Des Moines and he was also never found.

There's a hell of a story here but I don't know if it'll ever be told.

Eugene Martin was the other kid's name. I grew up about an hour from Des Moines... I can still remember the fear that caused. You always heard rumors about what happened to those kids and where they were allegedly buried, etc.
The Register even rented out space on the side of semi trucks with their pictures. It was freaky stuff.

That would drive you crazy. I don't see how the mother can go on.

Yeah it was. The Gosch kidnapping was the first big child abduction I remember and I was in HS at the time. Stuff like that just didn't happen in Iowa. Or if it did, you never heard about it.

I don't remember what kind of heat the Register caught when those two kids were taken. Both of them were picking up newspapers at their dropoff points early in the morning when they disappeared.

When that story broke in 1997 many people believed she had gone crazy. At the time she insisted that the "real" story was about to come out. I still highly doubt she actually saw her son that night.

I made the mistake of googling Johnny Gosch and stumbled upon www.johnnygosch.com maintained by his mom. Then I clicked on some link: http://www.johnnygosch.com/cos.htm

and read all about how George Herbert Walker Bush was allegedly tied into all of this and how the media did nothing about it. Anywhoo, an interesting read for those conspiracy theorists out there.

I was in elementary school when the Gosch/Martin things happened.... I remember my parents being very protective of me.
I actually took an Omaha World-Herald route a few years later, but they always dropped the papers at my house. And my parents, not surprisingly, drove me around. I biked it sometimes, but I lived in a real small town.
Incidentally, there's another news-related kidnapping in Iowa that still hasn't been solved.
Jodi Huisentruit (sp?), a Mason City TV anchorwoman, was taken from her apartment parking lot 10 years ago. Her stuff was scattered across the lot like she'd been grabbed (she was the morning anchor, going in early). She's never been found.

    Damn.

I went to that site and then from there to Ted Gunderson's site. It had an article asserting Gosch was Jeff Gannon, the White House "reporter"/male escort, and Hunter S. Thompson was killed because he was working on a book about the child sex/Satanic worship/necrophiliac parties attended by the nation's elite at Bohemian Grove near San Fran...
