Sad to say, but AAU and club coaches and parents have no one to answer to like in the school setting.

It's a shame schools cannot give students enough games so that they do not have to go to this AAU crap.

In my school district, the eighth-grade basketball season is 10 games. 10.

When I was in middle school in Western Pennsylvania, we played about 20. Then we had a county-wide playoff.

When the guy apologizes, instead of having his wife take the step, it means something. When he apologizes in front of the coach, fans, parents and team, for his childish action, it means something. Until then, call him golfball and tee his ass up.

Good point. And those travel teams cost real $$, do they not? That's gotta add to the animosity when your kid isn't playing but is paying the same share as the coach's kid who never sits.

High school junior. Her co-coach is a college junior but she couldn't get off work last night, so her dad (the head club coach) helped her out.

That was actually one issue some disgruntled moms brought up last night. Two girls played only the fourth inning (it was a loooooong inning and they would have likely played the fifth had the time rule not come into effect).

Five of the team's 12 players were at Wednesday's practice. Five. All 12 were at the game. The coach retorted that many girls are missing practice and she will play those who show up or at least make every effort to show up.

One mom bitched how they never know when practice is. Coach said she has a phone. Then another bitched how they are busy ready to move. Coach's dad chimed in to call them up next time and they'll personally pick her up and take her to practice.

That really pissed the mom off.

My experience is that the younger the players are, the worse the parents. At ages 10-under the parents feel really invested/protective of the kids and go overboard.

The older they get, the more they realize it's up to the kids to play well, earn their spots, etc. and they recognize better where their little darling fits in with the others. For the most part, anyway.

Talk about contradictory, shelling out money for a kid's travel team but not taking advantage of the practices. How sad.

You'd think a coach who has to run softball practice with five bodies could be exempt from taking b.s. on game day, especially from the parents of the no-shows.

We have town rules about behavior at games and it is effective. Of course, we did had a guy go after an 8s Little League coach with a bat after the coach mildly insulted the guy's wife. But that was at practice, not a game...

The sad part of is, some of those parents probably believe that's true.
