JD, congratulations and good luck. I know you will enjoy being an editor, and while Lousiana is a great place to live, so is the Northwest, which has many of the benefits of my own New England with notably less snow and ice attached.

Congrats, JD. It's tough to leave the homeland, even if it's for a job. I'm sure you'll do great, even if you scream out, "Doesn't ANYBODY around here have a last name ending in X?"

    JD,

It's truly impressive how you've engendered so much good will on this board. Seems like everyone has been pulling for you. Cherish that sentiment.

I add my congrats, obviously, but I also have to say, you've got a set of brass ones to go with your "can't keep me down" determination. Back when I was a 20-something I remember my willingness to go anywhere for the biz--ending up in your neck of the woods--but I can't imagine doing it at "our age" now.

Next trip to Mulate's, I'll raise one for you.

Kick ass and laissez les bon temps rouler, Oregon style.

    Thanks again.

Any advice on long-distance moves? I should have asked this a week ago. It's an enterprise fraught with peril, or headaches, at least.

I'm a little late to this party, but I just wanted to add my congrats. This is great news to hear, and it couldn't have happened to a better guy. You're a class act, JD, and I'm so excited for you.

Shop around on movers -- especially if its out of your pocket. If you do it yourself, Penske can be as competitive as u-haul. But it's also like buying an airline ticket -- the earlier the better and prices can change. also, it can vary by location on one-way to avoid a glut of vans in the same spot.
