Flash Photography Advice

    The hell with that. The only thing you DO have to worry about is taking a picture at the precise moment a player is tossing the ball up to serve. That, indeed, can mess the player up -- as can taking a flash picture just as a player is releasing a free throw in basketball.

    Since those are two of the most boring, static photos in the realm of sports, it's no problem to let the coaches know you will never shoot when those events occur (although at our joint, our budding geniuses rarely fail to come back without a half-dozen takes of each scene).

    Other than that, in the course of action on the court, the players will never notice the flash.

    There isn't a bunch of people in the world who bitch more about the media coverage they think they ought to be getting than volleyball coaches and parents. If they say one word about you using flash, just pack up your camera and walk out of the gym. No flash, no photos.
