    Usually, it has more to do with someone who is unwilling to change or a personality conflict than actually being fired for the normal reasons coaches are fired.

    SJ Fav Mike Price was fired before he even coached a game at Alabama.

    So did Jon Embree and John L. Smith.

    Actually it was '90 when they got rolled by almost everybody (including Rice). Their only conference win was over SMU.

    In '91 they moved all their sports to the SEC except football and finished 6-6 (4-3 in the SWC), including a loss to Georgia in the Independence Bowl. They started SEC footbal play in '92 but Crowe never got the chance to coach an SEC game.

    John L. Smith couldn't click until slapping the hell outta himself first.

    John L. Smith is lucky that Frank Broyles is no longer AD at Arkansas.

    But, yeah, firing a coach at that point in the season is silly. Shows you didn't work out whatever issues there were before the season started in the first place.

    I covered a HS game on Friday in Colorado and Bobby Petrino was on the sidelines. I talked to him, he said he was just watching for fun and that his friend was one of the visiting team's coaches. Maybe Arkansas should take him back.

    A 5-7 Arkansas makes a 6-6 North Texas better than Viagra for tons of young Mercerites horny for a sure thing in a top-five media market.

    Is he scouting for young "talent"?

    I understand why they fired him, but they may have blown Arkansas' most legitimate national title hopes when they did...

    <drum lick>
    Mizzou- I know, I know. It was just the hiring of Smith that always threw me off. Just seemed like an obvious "let's bite the bullet for one season with an interim," despite having Wilson, Davis, etc ...

    Arkansas was never going to sniff the national championship game this year even with Petrino. As good as he is on the offensive side the ball his teams are never going to play championship-level defense.

    The only thing to this point in the year that changes if Petrino is still their is that Arkansas' first loss would happen in game three instead of game two.
