  1. Today is Maureen O'Hara's 86th birthday. Here are what I consider my 5 favorite Maureen O'Hara movies.

    1. The Quiet Man (one of my all-time favorite - starring John Wayne and directed by John Ford)
    2. Miracle on 34th Street (another classic)
    3. Only the Lonely (as John Candy's mother)
    4. The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939)
    5. (tie) How Green Was My Valley (tie) The Parent Trap

Can you believe that one of the movies on the list is from 1939 while another is from 1991 (Only the Lonely)? That's amazing.

I believe the phrase 'fiery redhead" was coined specifically for Ms. O'Hara.

  3. No doubt - she was a hottie when she was younger.

Yes, but Barry Fitzgerald as Michaleen Flynn had all the best lines.

  5. The "she's still alive?" reaction to O'Hara is the same one I had when I heard Mike Douglas died. I thought he shuffled off this mortal coil years ago.

I had the same reaction when I heard that Gerald Ford had checked into the Mayo Clinic. I had not realized he was still around.
