I looked through five pages and didn't see a thread ...

If there is one, please link. Otherwise:

This COULD be a really good system, but it would take the golf mainstream to swallow its pride and turn this thing into a true, single-elimination playoff.

So you don't feel like playing the Barclays Tiger? Good, you're eliminated. Only the top 120 in this tournament advance to next week.

Buh, buh, buh .... that will make the regular season irrelevant! (Like the fucking Zurich Classic of New Orleans is relevant anyway).

Well, the NBA's best team lost in the first round of the playoffs this year. And No. 2 seeds lose in the NCAA tournament. It's called excitement.

Make it pure single elimination. Top 120 this week play next week. Top 70 next week play in week three. Top 30 play in the Tour Championship. Enter the Cinderella factor. Maybe player No. 137 gets wicked hot at the right time and makes a run to Atlanta. It's like George Mason. Maybe Vijay or Sergio struggles so much in week 1 that he fails to make it to the 120. Good. That's excitement.

What this thing is now is just pure confusion. And the fact that Tiger can miss an event with little penalty, and that the tour computers project that no one ranked lower than 13 can win the whole shebang, well, that makes these "playoffs" a true snoozefest.

I honestly believe that nobody's going to give two shits about the FedEx Cup.

At the end of the year, the question will ALWAYS be "Who won the majors?" Not "who won whatever the hell they're calling their championship."

People view the Tour Championship as just another tournament.

I gotta agree with Cosmo. This would definitely add more punch and more fun if it was single elimination. It would be like watching the NCAA tournament somewhat. People would tune in to see who got eliminated.

But that's probably the only way people will care about this.
