    ...ending his streak at 297 consecutive starts.

    Anyone think this is going in the Big Book of Sports Conspiracies next to the chapter on 'Michael Jordan was Secretly Suspended for Gambling'?

    No.

    Jim Kelly was carted off the field in his last game.

    Steve Young was carted off the field in his last game.

    Brett Favre was knocked out with an injury in his last game.

    Happens all the time.

    What kind of conspiracy theory can there be here, 21?

    I remember going to a game in Cleveland in 1992 and it was touch-and-go whether Favre or a recovered Don Majkowski would start.

    Until now, that was probably about the closest Favre came to getting benched, though its forgotten that Mark Brunell was relatively close to getting the job in '94 when Favre struggled. Pretty sure Favre was benched during a game against the Vikings for Brunell.

    Anyway, douche though he's been the last several years, there's no denying it was one hell of an impressive streak he had. But it's clearly time for it to end.

    Just trying to make some trouble, my friend. 8)

    You don't suppose there are folks out there thinking:
    a) he's not that hurt but he's a weasel who can't handle losing;
    b) the Vikings have had enough but will let him blame an injury to save the humiliation of being benched;
    c) Jenn Sterger's cleavage is somehow to blame
    d) Leslie Frazier only took the job to sabotage the Vikings so the Bears can win.

    (D is my own little daydream mini-series, if anyone steals the idea I will find out.)

    All of those things probably are true... except D.
    The Vikings suck so bad Frazier doesn't have to sabotage them.

    And I might add, this news of Favre's sitting out was posted on the running thread about 20 minutes before you started this thread ... it's on page 2,976

    I'm sure this news will be handled with quiet grace and dignity by the various cable nets.

    Is ESPN doing a two-hour pregame special on the end of Favre's streak, even though they don't have the game?

    I know you know I knew that.

    I was checking to see if the 'Start New Thread' button still worked.
