This is a no-win situation for the Packers. If they let him go to sign with another team, it could come back to haunt them, very soon. But if they refuse his request, the organization will be crucified by the media unitl the day Favre dies, and possibly up until the point he rises from the dead and ascends into heaven.

Jim Edmonds will play for the Cubs before that happens.

They can't release him. They have to at least trade him.

In related news, Warren Sapp has announced his un-retirement with a plan to sign, and then be released, and then signed by every opposing team on Favre's schedule.

That way, we can see them talk smack to each other on the field, you know, like they're kids running around on a football field!

Would love to see the Vikings get Favre, just to see Rosie's head explode.

It shouldn't matter for the Packers, Favre is on the cover of Madden, so he's likely to tear his ACL on the first play of the preseason.

Trade, release, whatever. The choice between giving him his way and comng off as the meanies who denied Brett Favre ain't a good one.

They should trade his rights to Oakland.

The Packers should immediately call up Jon Gruden and ask what he would give for Favre. Even if it's a seventh-round pick, take it. Ship him to Tampa. Or Bill Parcells. Send that old man to Miami.

The Packers need to remember they control the situation. Favre is an asset. If he wants to keep playing, there are plenty of teams that will take him in trade. Get something for him.

Then find a columnist on your side, feed him everything off the record, and let him crucify Favre.

BTW, Aaron Rodgers better be damn good.
