I have a bootleg version of "Seeds," just Bruce a harmonica and a guitar. It has the kind of seering anger in it -- devoid of the silly anthemic grandeur of the popular live version -- the song actually deserves.

Similar to this Stockholm version, but much meaner:

oh, if we're expanding to five:

    thunder road
    racing in the street
    out in the street
    rosalita
    promised land

    or.....
    you're missing
    badlands
    lost in the flood
drive all night (the greatest slowest of all slow songs)
    incident on 57th street

    or......
well, you get the idea. the catalogue is too huge.

which is why can can still do a 25-song show and leave old timers grumbling about the list of songs he didn't do.

I'd try and make a top 5 list, but I think it would change day by day...

I know Boss fans will laugh at my choice, but I never really got into a lot of his stuff... It's not that I don't like him, just never really gave most of his work a shot for whatever reason...

    My favorite? "Brilliant Disguise"

When I was a kid growing up in a faceless Texas suburb, that trumpet said "New York" to me in a way that no picture of a Manhattan skyline ever could. I could just see the steam rising from the grates and hear the echo of a taxi cab's engine rumbling as it rolled through a near-empty concrete canyon at 3 a.m.

Oh, I have a few to mention.

"Radio Nowhere" is quickly becoming a favorite.
"Murder Incorporated" (which has a great karaoke story behind it)
    "Promised Land"

Trouser, if I made a list of my favorite post "Born in the U.S.A." Springsteen songs, it would probably be on the list.

I'm with you. "Brilliant Disguise" is a really good song. I respect Bruce's work and I've seen him live -- the second concert he did the second night that Staples Center in Los Angeles was open -- but I've never really just sat down and listened to all of his stuff. I will say that the concert was great because he played only 3 or 4 mainstream hits during the show and the rest was really solid stuff.
