    Joe Posnanski on baseball
    Wetzel on big stories that matter
    Boswell's columns on the Redskins (though it's been a while)
    MacGregor's essays about sports and life
    Krikorian in the late '80s and early '90s
    Any number of guys from either the NY Post or NYDN
    Mahler up in the sticks of Vermont

    Others who I should be naming but can't think of right now.

    If someone considers them their favorites, sure. But it's not "Best Sportswriters." People can be good without necessarily being someone's favorite.

    Read Gary Smith in college, became infatuated. He has a way with words.

    Whenever I take the train to NYC I read both. Can't remember specific writers, but I enjoy both papers' sports sections be it Yankees or Mets or Knicks of Giants writers. The only guy I can't stand from either paper is Lupica.
