    This is the team that made me a college basketball fan. And this shot more than any sums up David Thompson at N.C. State. Still the greatest college player ever, IMHO.

    We are now awash in highlights - few of which have the lasting punch of a great SI cover from those days. It had such power and ability to set the discussion when it arrived each week in the mailbox. In many ways, it's a great time to be a fan because of the availability of stories, stats and video. On the other hand, it's all the same and so little stands out.

    Maybe it especially resonated because I was only 9, but the only one I could not take my, uh, eyes off of (non-swimsuit division) . . .
