Pearl Jam's "Black" should have ended this thread :

I know someday you'll have a beautiful life,
I know you'll be a sun in somebody else's sky, but why
Why, why can't it be, can't it be mine

And in the end, the love you take
Is equal to the love you make.

Not merely the end of a song.
    The end of an era.

  4. The verse right before the final chorus(es) of Hard Sun by Eddie Vedder:

So I tried to warn her
I turned to see her weep
    Forty days and forty nights
And it's still coming down on me

    My all-time fav:

"I held the blade in trembling hands ... prepared to make it but --"

"Just then the phone rang ... I never had the nerve to make the final cut"

Two dissimilar songs with sort of similiar endings....

"Rock Around The Clock" by Bill Haley and the Comets and "I Can Help" by Billy Swan.....both end with a marvelous descending guitar riff (cascading best describes the riff in the latter song). Haley's record goes beyond that, though, finishing off with a tremendous crash of drums and cymbals - the shots heard 'round the world, you might say.

Surprised this ditty hasn't been mentioned:

"Start Me Up" -The Rolling Stones

    Go, go
You make a grown man cry
    Go, go
You make a dead man cum

My favorite cut from my favorite band. But before the percussion ending, the horn solos blow me away.

I never noticed the ending because the rest of the song is so lyrically compelling.
