  2. The following lead actually saw the light of day:

PODUNK — There were plenty of ghouls, goblins, witches, trolls and even a couple of sprouts, clowns and devils for good measure on the campus of Podunk Prep School in West Bubble Fuck on Wednesday.
Unfortunately, none of them could wield a spell strong enough to ward off the bad karma that vexed the Podunk boys soccer team."

This should become a new trend. Put inappropriate holiday cliches in prep ledes. Fireworks references on Thanksgiving, Easter bunny jokes on Halloween, etc. It would still be horrible annoying writing, but with an upside.

Don't use a holiday lede. Just don't do it. Everybody else knows what day it is. Everybody else is thinking about doing the same lede. There's nothing worse than eight Halloweed ledes in the same paper.

I hate ledes that involve either A) A holiday or B) the weather.

So "It was a dark and stormy night" gets axed?

I'm just glad Podunk's spirits didn't get dampened by today's downpour.

Good thing when a high school basketball game is canceled due to weather, it didn't get iced.
