For real though, I think the majority of the folks hitting the football threads on here know who Howard Schellenberger is. Many of them have probably covered his current team, previous teams, and know him personally.

Even for a fan, it should never be "we".

I know, I know. That was just a little part of my stupid little joke. I figured most people would at least know of him.

And stitch, I get that, hence why I said I'll be working on the habit :) I wasn't being sarcastic when I said thanks for the advice. It was a nice reminder of the taking sides rule of respectable journalism.

A friend who works for Ford just got this e-mail.

"Complimentary Tickets for Ford Motor Company Employees"

As a partner of the Detroit Lions and Ford Field, we are offering Ford Motor Company employees and agency employees four complimentary tickets each to see the "Spartans in The D".

Watch Florida Atlantic University host Michigan State University at Ford Field on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 12pm. This will be MSU’s first football game at Ford Field.

Tickets will be available at the Ford Conference and Event Center on Village Drive in Dearborn from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. EDT on Thursday, September 9 and Friday, September 10 or while supplies last.

Friend, and Spartan grad added: Anyone want these? I don't want to go.

Second friend, fellow Spartan grad responded: I just sort of want to watch the game at home, maybe AJ will go.

AJ's response: I'm watching the game at the bar. Thank god Ford bought tickets. Attendance may top 20k

Seriously, why aren't more Detroit-area fans buying tickets to this? I know it's a game involving a crappy team, but you never know, Michigan State might put up a fight.

Flipping through the channels I saw a few seconds of the game -- there are maybe 10,000 people in the stands.

They'll probably announce something like 30, but most of them must be waiting in lines in the restrooms.

There was probably 20k there. It was pretty empty. My group of friends and I left at halftime to go to the casino.

You'd think that MSU fans would have jammed the place, despite FAU not being a primo opponent. I would imagine seeing any college team playing at Ford Field would be cool, and MSU draws many students and fans in general from metro Detroit.

A lot harder to tailgate at Ford Field than at Sparty Stadium, tho. Atmosphere would be completely different.

Plus it would be a separate expense from season tickets. I can see why they'd take a pass.

Good thing they blew up the OB or else Lamar Thomas would be going spastic.

For someone who was at the Pizza Pizza bowl (or whatever the hell they called it last year), watching a college game there lacked atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, the stadium is beautiful if not a bit antiseptic, but when it's not filled it swallows the sounds of the marching bands and really ruins what is great about a college stadium.

Marshall and Ohio drew 30,000 for the bowl game last year and it was like a mausoleum in there.
