just listened to Cats and the Cradle; damn as a father those are brutal lyrics. I fondly recall listening as a kid but never really listened. Always tried as a father to never have that happen to my kids.

There was a point where I couldn't listen to it.

I'm sort of embarrassed by my affection for "Stay" by Alan Doyle. The opening verse is about a father saying goodbye to his grown daughter. It crushes me.

    Before you hit the road,
Why don't you dance with me now?
    And why don't you stay?
The song only lasts for so long.
All I can say is I'll miss you the moment you're gone.

I really like "Tears in Heaven," but would also pitch "The Living Years" by Mike and the Mechanics. Absolutely loved that song when it came out and could listen to it endlessly.

"I think I heard his echo in my baby's newborn tears..."

This song is not entirely painful in the way of "Tears in Heaven," but it is sad nonetheless. And generally speaking, the whole thing is very relatable.

The best pure tribute song to a father, in my book, is "The Leader of the Band," by Dan Fogelberg.

One I can relate to more than I'd care to. "Better Man" by Hell Yeah.

Most of the songs that resonate with me were my dad's favorites, not because the lyrics are associated with being or having a father.

My favorite along these lines is "Still Fighting It" by Ben Folds.

"And you're so much like me.... I'm sorry."

This one gets me too. Especially this line with my oldest getting married this last weekend: "You'll try and try / And one day you'll fly / Away from me"

Yep, just typing the damn thing in is getting me lol.
