I think it's "Turn Around" by Judy Collins. From a dad to a daughter, it's a great song.

If you like weepers, the best mom-to-a-child song is "No Charge" by Melba Montgomery.

I loved Harry Chapin's work...Even saw him in concert. Love "Cat's In The Cradle." Hard to believe he has been gone 27 years.

    Isnt she lovely
    Isnt she wonderfull
    Isnt she precious
    Less than one minute old
I never thought through love wed be
Making one as lovely as she
But isnt she lovely made from love

    Isnt she pretty
    Truly the angels best
    Boy, Im so happy
    We have been heaven blessed
I cant believe what God has done
Through us hes given life to one
But isnt she lovely made from love

    Isnt she lovely
Life and love are the same
    Life is aisha
    The meaning of her name
Londie, it could have not been done
Without you who conceived the one
Thats so very lovely made from love

    Mommy had. A little baby.
    There he is. Fast asleep.
    He's just. A little plaything.
    Why not. Wake him up?
    Cute. Cute. Little baby.
    Little pee pee. Little toes.
    Now he's comin' to me.
    Crawl across. The kitchen floor.

Baby, baby, please let me hold him
I wanna make him stay up all night
Sister, sister, he's just a plaything
We wanna make him stay up all night
    Yeah we do

See him drink. From a bottle.
See him eat. From a plate.
    Cute. Cute. As a button.
Don't you wanna make him. Stay up late.
And we're having fun. With no money.
    Little smile. On his face.
Don't cha' love. The little baby.
Don't you want to make him. Stay up late.

    CHORUS

Here we go (all night long)
    Sister, sister (all night long)
    In the playpen...woo...(all night long)
Little baby goes, ha! (all night long)
I know you want to leave me...

    Why don't. We pretend.
    There you go. Little man.
    Cute. Cute. Why not?
Late at night. Wake him up.

    CHORUS

Here we go (all night long)
    Sister, sister...woo...
    (with the television on)
Little baby goes...woo! (all night long)
Hey, hey, baby! (all night long)
And he looks so cute (all night long)
In his little red suit (all night long)

A few I put on a CD for my first child..

"Sooner or Later" by Michael Tolcher
    "Green" by Sister Hazel
    "One Love" by Sister Hazel
    "Count on Me" by Tonic
    "I Am" by Train
    "Shimmer" by Shawn Mullins
    "Meaning" by Gavin DeGraw
"Baby Girl" by Will Hoge (obviously if you have a daughter)

And there are about 10 more. For shits and giggles, I've gotten the lyrics signed by the artists themselves and hanging on the wall in my daughter's room for five of the songs. My goal is to get them all.

"The Best Day" is an excellent choice.

Yikes. Not to stomp on your post, but "Go Your Own Way" has nothing to do with parenthood, or childhood. Still love the song, though (especially Buckingham's slashing guitar runs).

    ;)

    Back to parenthood:

"Forever Young," Bob Dylan (and many many covers).
"Goodnight Little Arlo," Woody Guthrie, 1947 (for the then-newborn Arlo, now 61).
    "Dandelion," the Rolling Stones
"Fool To Cry," the Rolling Stones
