Driving in today Cat Stevens' "Cats in the Cradle" came on the stereo (my 70's blend) and although I've always enjoyed the rhythm of the song, the lyrics were simply heartbreaking. Luckily, I've been able to spend time with my boys every step of the way. Listening to how the dad was always too busy to witness his boy's first steps, throwing the ball, etc...Wow. Your favorites?

Cat's in the Cradle is Harry Chapin.

Father and Son by Cat Stevens is an incredible song.

Watching Scotty Grow - Bobby Goldsboro

All-American Girl - Carrie Underwood (that one hit me in the heart once I learned we were having a daughter)

At least for a while, I'll crack up everytime I heard "Cat's in the Cradle." Last night's HIMYM...

If I someday get married, My Little Girl by Tim McGraw and Cleaning this Gun by Rodney Atkins are two of the possibilities for my dance with my dad.

I think Cat Stevens covered "Cat's in the Cradle" as well.

I have two daughters, but "Butterfly Kisses" still blows major chunks.

Everclear's "Father Of Mine" is a pretty depressing song for anyone whose dad wasn't around.

"Cat's in the Cradle" is definitely one of my favorites.

I also like Conway Twitty's "That's My Job."

More obscure is David Bowie's Kooks:

And if you ever have to go to school
Remember how they messed up this old fool
Don't pick fights with the bullies or the cads
'Cause I'm not much good at punching
    Other people's Dads

Winter by Tori Amos for my dad

Five Candles (You Were There) by Jars of Clay reminds me greatly of my biological father

Don't ever listen to "Hey Mister" by Custom if you have a daughter.

Do listen to "Daughters" by John Mayer.

There's also his duet with Loretta Lynn, "You're the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly."

Speaking of Loretta Lynn, "The Games That Daddies Play."
