F--- boxing

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by anonymousprick, Sep 20, 2009.

  1. Can't argue with anyone saying I deserved to be parted with my money. I really did want to give boxing another shot, though. The only guy out there worth the price of admission is Pacquiao.

I know MMA isn't everyone's cup of tea but UFC main events hit far more often than they miss.

I'll start watching boxing when big fights come back to normal TV (which, I know, likely means never). I gave up on PPV a long time ago.

I remember watching Ray Mancini beat Duk Koo Kim to death on a Saturday afternoon on CBS.

I saw that too. I can also (vaguely) remember those late 70s Ali fights against guys like Spinks and Shavers. Back then the biggest fights were prime time Network TV, everybody watched, everybody talked about it the next day. And then PPV changed the sport forever.

Anyone else remember watching Larry Holmes beat the ever holy shit out of Tex Cobb on a Friday night?

I also remember Renaldo Snipes nearly knocking out Holmes in 1980 or 1981. Think Holmes staggered up at eight.

Me, too. I was a huge Boom Boom fan as a kid, and learned to loathe Livingstone Bramble.

    Yeah, Rasta vs. Pasta.

And it was Holmes-Cobb that made Cosell stop announcing bouts, I believe.

I'll never forget the headline of the Sheboygan Press after Ali's last fight, against Trevor Berbick:

Don't cry... it could have been worse

Boxing: Were you in the room when the bout was decided?

    Football: -110.

    Horses: Leverage!
