Evangelicals' Newest Complaint

FT, you're about 15 years light on the timeline here. This has been going on for nearly 30 years.

The evangelicals got involved big-time in electing Reagan in 1980, figuring he would repeal abortion, enact prayer in schools and turn America into the theocracy they'd wet themselves waiting for. Instead, he started the GOP MO of jerking them around and catering to Wall Street and big business instead.

 

Ditto.

They're what the nuns used to call "near occasions of sin."

 

And the civil rights movement, as well. My small-town Ohio pastor went to Mississippi in 1963, though his congregation wasn't completely in favor of the trip.
