Interesting item on Favre's Wikipedia page:

Favre was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round, 33rd overall in the 1991 NFL Draft. Atlanta coach Jerry Glanville did not approve of the drafting of Favre, saying it would take a plane crash for him to put Favre into the game. Favre's first pass in an NFL regular season game resulted in an interception returned for a touchdown. He only attempted four passes in his career at Atlanta, completing none of them.

It took O.J. Simpson one night to destroy everything he had done on the field, and on the screen.

All those people cheering the not guilty verdict beg to differ.

But look at how he has been perceived since that verdict. No movies, no NFL pregame shows, etc.

I'm a Green Bay fan and by extension Favre fan. I respect what he's done, but I was never blinded by the fact that Pack also lost a great many opportunities because he was such a "gunslinger." Yeah you got skills and can rifle a ball in there, but don't throw it into triple coverage....a quarterback also has to be able to think and make good decisions...something Favre has done later in his career, but then reverts back to old Gunslinger Favre last year against the Giants.

Get over it already. Dude, you told the team you wanted to retire. Its done you're 38 years old, do you think you're going to continue to play injury free?

Batman, that AP story was SOLID.

But ... but ... he had so much fun at the ESPY's. He was like a kid out there.

Vick's reputation wasn't exactly sparkling before the dogfighting stuff broke.

O.J.'s image had taken a couple of dings with his messy divorce from his first wife and the briefly-reported 911 call to police from Nicole a year or so before the murder, but to the public at large he was still the Juice.

You could probably add McGwire and Palmiero to the list. I think they were regarded by most fans as "borderline-probable" HOFers before the fiasco testimony on Capitol Hill, and then Palmiero testing dirty shortly thereafter served to take them both down (along with most of the other steroid suspects). Neither gets a sniff now. Clemens is in that category too -- he went from dead-nuts HOF selection to very much borderline IMO (unless some amazing exculpatory evidence comes out in the next 4 years).

Bonds' reputation went as bad as anybody else's, but that was a gradual process taking about 5 years. At first there was some doubt he was on the juice, but time went by and people started saying, "wait a minute, I ain't buying that shit."
