If his first order of business is to have Crane Kenny killed then he's ok by me.

Theo Epstein clearly is history's greatest monster.

Did Gammons write that for Theo?

Even so, Theo at least tried to play a little nice on the way out.

And they won 90 games. 90 games in the NL Central plus a little luck gets you a pennant.

This is an excellent situation for Epstein, as the Cubs' needs play to his strengths -- all the skills we can put under the heading "farm system development" and do not involve major league player personnel acquisitions, where his record is mixed. (There have been some real good ones along with the busts).

I dislike the Red Sox as much as anyone, but this is just silly. First, his team has as many home grown stars as anyone (Youkilis, Ellsbury, Pedroia, Lester, Buchholz, Papelbon, Bard, Nava - just seeing is you were paying attention). Plus, he developed enough talent to land the young studs he wanted on the trade market (Beckett, Gonzalez). He has some whiffs of course, but his record is better than most. Also, the reason everyone hated the Crawford contract was its length. Every GM in the game would have signed him in a heartbeat for this season; his sudden collapse was completely unforeseeable. Cubs fans should be smiling all off season.
