Energy Diet Anyone?

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by Lugnuts, May 10, 2008.

Anybody interested in going on an energy diet with me?

Mr. Lugs said it would be 'nice' if I could knock $10 off our power bill.

He said he'd be 'impressed' if I could knock off $20.

He said he'd be 'shocked' if I could knock off $30.

I want to shock. Any ideas?

--Most of my bulbs are already florescent.
--I'm being smarter about laundry and using cold water more.
--I've cut out my weekly soak in the tub... it's monthly now.
--I've unplugged everything I'm not using. (But I might start unplugging the computer for the night when I go to bed.)

Check out the power saving options on your computer.

Also, if you have a programmable thermostat, set the temp to go warmer when you're at work (during the summer, obviously).

If you don't have a programmable model, go get one installed.

    My three tips...

-- Wrap your hot water heater in an insulating blanket
-- Have closed-cell foam insulation sprayed in the attic and basement to replace traditional fiberglass insulation
-- Always buy Energy Star-certified appliances and electronic devices

You're still taking showers though, right?

I am so disappointed. I thought this was going to be some new thing Luggy had found that would let me lose weight on Monster drinks and sugar.

    Gotta bounce, huh? :-X

I could not turn off my puter at night, because that's when I'm actually using it.

    If I knocked $30 off my bill, I wouldn't have a bill.

I live by myself so it's easy to keep my bill down. Right now my TV is on, my laptop is on and a lamp is on -- that's it.

    Is your refrigerator running?

Whatever you do, don't move to Florida. I could sit in the dark and never turn my computer on and I'd still pay through the nose to run the A/C.

That's how we are here in Atlanta, too, but the sprayed-on closed-cell foam insulation in our attic and basement has really helped a ton.
