Dwyane Wade, Ray Allen think NBA players should get paid for Olympics

That's very nice food for thought for your blog or whatever but in the real world the party whose business requires the services of the performer (in this case the Olympics) would negotiate terms and conditions with the service providers (the players).

And if in fact the service providers are already under contract with another entity (the NBA, for example), then the business may also need to negotiate with that other entity over some of its contractual rights to the service providers' services.

This is very hard but the good thing is that each of these entities have really smart people to whom they pay an awful lot of money to work out these complex issues.

What does the Olympics do with all their money? I'm sure a lot of it is pissed away, but it does do some good.

So here is the PR fallout...

These guys have to make cutbacks to what they do http://www.specialolympics.org/ or http://www.usip.org.pl/?d=home. Why? Because the NBA players and the NBA owners wanted $50 mil for their players to play in the Games.

Next, we will have Bolt demand $15 mil to lace them up this summer.

If this is the path you guys want, more power to you. But filthy rich people bitching about money does not play well.

Has nothing to do with the subject. ALL major sports organizations have charitable programs. The idea that professionals should forgo compensation because they are concerned about hokey PR dilemmas that pop into your brain is laughable.

Nobody "demands" anything. They negotiate fair compensation through their representatives.

I'm sorry you don't like to hear that entertainers command huge compensation in the marketplace. That doesn't change the fact they command huge compensation in the marketplace.
