It's as if you're related to one of the defendants. If you're a journo, you darn well know that trials are a lot sexier to give coverage to than the dropping of charges. Just the way the biz works, and just the way readers work. As for our reaction....similar to recent Bonds/Balco news not getting many posts. We tire of rehashing the same ground, so it's hard to stir intense interest in something over and over again after a while. We move on to other topics to beat into the ground.

And, we're human. It's hard to stir much sympathy for the privileged.

  2. Boy, that's toweringly dumb even by Christmas-drunk standards.
Sean Bell is fucking dead. He doesn't have Bob Bennett running the ball for him in the NYT.

Those two players should tell Duke to suck long brown doodies out of their ass right after Mike Nifong gets done doing the same thing.

    Duke's just covering its bases.

It would be a darn shame if these guys end up suing the shit out of the university.

Isn't it a bit curious that Duke invites the two guys back in school just before the spring semester when they likely don't have time to really go back this semester. And, by not going back this semester, they can't play next season.

Just when you thought this case can't get any weirder. We're negotiating grades in court?

    Why? The university deserves it.

So being "human" means that you only have sympathy for people up to a certain tax bracket? Wow. You're basically saying that if a kid, through no fault of his/her own, is born to an upper-middle/upper-class family, he/she should be publicly tarred and feathered the first chance we get, and no one should bat an eye? Knock 'em down a peg, no matter what the legal/moral/ethical cost! Get 'em! They drive nicer cars than we do! They have whiter teeth! Get 'em!

Hey, if there was ample proof that these kids did what they were originally charged with, I'd be the first one to say punish them to the full extent of the law. But when are people going to realize that no matter what you think of these lacrosse players, the truth is that the dancer has been exposed as a blatant liar, that bumbling twit Nifong has been exposed as a politically-motivated witch hunter with no regard for legal due process, and everyone associated with the prosecution hasn't had a leg to stand on in quite some time, and the case is only alive due to stubborn, misguided, myopic fools whose "class-ism" is as reprehensible as the Duke students' alleged racism and sexism.
