  1. What goes on at Minot Air Force Base must be a running joke in the Air Force nowadays as 17 officers lose their authority to launch missiles.

    The base also has had incidents where watch officers fell asleep on duty and a crew accidentally putting live nukes on a bomber.

    No, you're not. Once the need is declared to launch the stupid things, we are already past the point of crisis, into completely fucked mode --- and whether they are launched or not doesn't matter at that point.

    Must have sucked being in Minot in the Cold War -- all the disadvantages of desolate small-town living, but unlike most small towns, you're a priority target so you're still going to get nuked the bejesus out of if the balloon ever went up.
