My brother-in-law was a buyer for Family Dollar around 10 years ago. In one meeting they were debating on whether to purchase a socket set to sell in their stores. After a little debate, whomever was in charge of the meeting stopped everyone and asked, "Will it work twice before it breaks ? If so, let's say 'yes' and move on."

Also, I lived in a town of maybe 2,000 for about three years. There was a Dollar General Market - which is basically a DG with a small grocery store on one side. Less than a quarter mile down the same road was the old regular DG they kept open, because they didn't want the old building owners to lease Family Dollar a move-in ready store.
