Fresh off the success of the the recent SODA WARS bracket, it's time to pick your favorite horror movie from a field of 16. I'll put up the brackets later tonight and I'll give the entire of SportsJournalists.com 3 days to move your choices on to the next round.

Who will survive to slay another day? It's up to you.

I'm a big horror film guy. The problem is, I've watched so many from so many different countries, almost nothing fazes or shocks me anymore. Dario Argento is a true master of the genre, but his movies gross me out more than scare me. So, here's an unordered list of 10 good ones.

The Shining: Kubrick's version, of course, not that made-for-TV dreck. I couldn't watch another horror movie for three years after this one.

The Exorcist: I didn't see this one until I was in my 20s ... and found it kind of funny. But any list of great horror films would be incomplete without it.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The most recent incarnations have been skillfully made, but the raw, gritty power of the original will stand the ultimate test of time. These days, it almost looks like a snuff film, which makes it even more creepier.

The Audition: The Japanese are really fucking sick people.

Halloween I thought Rob Zombie added a few interesting twists to the story, but John Carpenter's original set the standard that few imitators have come close to matching. Halloween 4 almost made the list based on the really hot blond babe with big hooters, but that's another list.

The Thing: Another underappreciated Carpenter classic. I would add "The Fog" to the list, but despite its cool freak-out moments, it's just too damn cheesy.

Saw: It really surprised me. It was original, gritty, pulled few punches and got bonus points for having Cary Elwes simulate hurting himself. Now the series is just a joke.

High Tension: I heard so many good things about it, I got a European cut of the movie a year before it was released here. It didn't disappoint. Wow.

Se7en: To this day, no other movie has left me speechless at the end. Fincher has never been better.

    1. Alien: This will always be the ultimate haunted house movie and the No. 1 on my list. It's flat-out perfect in almost every way.
