    Diagnosed with it this morning. I swear to God I thought I was going to die.

    Anyone have it or suggestions for dealing with it?

    Brother and law had it about 15 years ago and had to have surgery to remove part of his large intestine. He's fine now and keeps it under control with diet and exercise. I'd be screwed.

    Bill Self had it while at Illinois. Had to give up beef jerky.

    Also, Doug and Wendy Whiner had it.

    Ugh.

    It just sounds like a scary condition to have.

    Not to make light of the subject...but according to Wikipedia the following people have had it....

    * John Wooden,
    * Billy Graham,
    * Fidel Castro
    * James K. Polk
    * Ken Griffey Jr.,
    * Kwame Kilpatrick, Mayor of Detroit (2002-present)
    * Craig Venter
    * Dilma Rousseff
    * Amitabh Bachchan
    * "Buzz Burbank",
    * Desi Arnaz, Ricky Ricardo from I Love Lucy
    * Glenn Frey, The Eagles
    * Cher

    Elliotte, I have Crohn's, which provides many of the same fun symptoms. And I'm dealing with a flare-up right now, so we're probably in the same boat with a lot of what we're going through. My thoughts and prayers are with you. While painful and annoying, I promise there are better days ahead. And at least you don't have to deal with the U.S. health care system, too. :)

    My grandma had it something fierce, and as long as she was super meticulous in her diet, she had few issues. But therein lies the problem, she had to watch *every* thing she digested, from butter, to salt, to strawberries (evidently any thing with seeds is poison for diverticulitis).

    Had it three years ago in my 40's. Do what your docs say. You'll get better.

    PM Doc Talk for another opinion on how to get comfortable tonight if you need to. He's great.

    You are under the care of a doc, right? Did they prescribe meds for pain?

    My dad had it 10-15 years ago, and had to drink this vinegar-seeming, water-based fluid.
    He had to drink a whole milk jug of it each day, for several days.
    I tasted it and it wasn't good. Then he eventually had some type of procedure done.
    I should have paid more attention to what actually went on.
    Good luck with it.
