DirecTV or Dish Network

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by Tommy_Dreamer, Jan 3, 2007.

  1. This is one thing I have found, however, that kidn of puts the kabosh on getting opinions from dish owners . . . oen dish and installation is not necessarily like the other. I have personally, had almost zero problems with mine, and only lost my signal during heavy rain storms and never in the wintertime, which, considering that I live on a heavily tree-lined street, says a lot. I have also heard people say they lost their signal during lightrains, even mists, or during heavy winds. Although they seem to be in the minority, those people do exist. I am pretty sure it is all in the installation. I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself.

If he gets DirecTV, I call dibs on getting Tommy Dreamer for the "refer a friend and both of you get $50 credit on your next bill."

There's only one reason to get DirecTV instead of DishNetwork -- the NFL package. If it's something you gotta have, DirecTV is for you. If not, you'd be foolish to go that route.

The Dish Network packages, which are generally the same as the DirecTV packages, are about $5-$10 cheaper per month, there are more HD channels, you get better rates on the equipment and equipment upgrades, the customer service is slightly better (although both are far and away better than cable) and the Dish Network DVR is about 100 times better/easier to use than DirecTV's.

The deal Dish Network has now -- the one I just signed my parents up for -- is you get up to four rooms installed free (they credit back the $48 install fee on your bill), free equipment, free DVR/HD upgrade (the DVR service is $5 per month) and three free months of a premium channel. That's mighty tough to beat.

Oh, and I got dibs on Dreamer if he goes with DN.

I'll keep you in mind Inky, but I know my father has Dish Network and he'd get the bonus.

I am familiar with DN but I wanted some DTV opinions.

My g-ma has DirecTV and I love it when I can watch NFL Network for hours on end. I just wish she had NBA TV, then I would really be sold.

NBA TV is part of DirecTV's sports package. Channel 601, I believe.

Can you still get HBO on both systems?

Amazing no one has mentioned DTV's multitude of porn channels.
Not that I've ever watched them. Honest, well maybe, 1 time.
