    SUMMARY

    The Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer is seeking a dynamic and creative Digital Content Editor to oversee content and operations across the club’s digital platforms, products and initiatives.

    DESCRIPTION

    The Columbus Crew Digital Content Editor is a new role, which will manage all of the club’s digital properties, including but not limited to: TheCrew.com, the official Web site of the Columbus Crew; CrewStadium.com; the club’s official blog; all social digital platforms; and more, as web properties evolve. They will be responsible for defining the tone, pace, look and feel of the club’s content, as well as coordinating all logistics and communications of editorial publication on the Crew’s Website and other digital platforms. This position reports directly to the Director of Marketing and Promotions.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Be responsible for overseeing the editorial/programming vision of the team’s digital products
    • Should live and breathe the team sites
    • Oversee all logistics of scheduling, staffing, resource management and editorial prioritization
    • Be responsible for managing incoming content and writing new content
    • Create community focused content, such as polls and photo galleries, triggering deeper engagement from community members
    • Work within the content management system to post content on a regular basis
    • Create headlines, teasers, and summaries that entice readers
    • Ensure editorial delivery is consistent with the team’s overall strategy, time, cost and quality standards
    • Creatively find ways to boost the team site’s traffic and increase user activity
    • Work with team stakeholders to conceive, design and launch new editorial features
    • Be able to quickly write time-sensitive posts (50 words) as well as a lengthier features
    • Be skilled at spotting/developing news trends and is a natural networker, building relationships within soccer blogosphere
    • Developing and overseeing sports editorial content, including editing, quality assurance and proofreading
    • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

    SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

    • All applicants should have a good knowledge of Major League Soccer and a comprehensive knowledge of the Columbus Crew
    • Be highly familiar with the blogosphere and social media and be comfortable posting content using blogging software or content management system
    • This position is for individuals with strong written and verbal communications skills. The individuals should possess strong time management skills and the ability to multitask
    • Must understand web analytics and traffic patterns
    • Experience, at a managerial level, in an editorial organization or Web site. Prior experience in online media preferred
    • Dynamic and inspiring writer (Samples Required)
    • 3+ years experience editing and writing – preferably in Web and/or other short form content
    • Ability to work as part of a team in a multi-media environment
    • Bachelors degree required; graduate degree in journalism or related field preferred
    • Ability to work well with others including senior management
    • Excellent interpersonal verbal/written communication skills
    • Team management skills
    • Be a self-starter, entrepreneurial, positive, and collaborative.
    • Computer savvy – you will be posting content as well as writing it
    • Self-motivated, positive and collaborative attitude
    • Fluency in Microsoft Office, Mac/PC software, and Web/new media technology. Familiarity with Photoshop, Flash, HTML and a strong competency in web content management
    • Have html and programming skills and the ability to edit pictures


    This individual must have a strong understanding of the Web and an aptitude for technology, as the primary responsibility for this position will be the management of Web site content for the Columbus Crew.
