I've been reffing flag football games for this Christian league thanks to a friend of mine who works security at the main bar I go to for karaoke. In my first season officiating high school football, I never worked as "the white hat", or the head referee. However, in each of the flag football games I've done, I've been the white hat.

One of this league's rules is that players can't curse during games. If you do, you get hit with a 10-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty (most of the major fouls in this league are 10-yard penalties). If you get hit for unsportsmanlike twice, you're ejected from the game and automatically suspended for the next game.

During the middle game of the three-game set, this one guy said "shit" and I heard him clearly. I threw my flag and called him for unsportsmanlike conduct. I'm thinking the guy will be more careful about what comes out of his mouth and there won't be any more problems. Wrong. The guy said "shit" on the VERY NEXT PLAY, well within earshot of me.

I threw my flag again and called him for unsportsmanlike conduct and ejected him. The guy who's actually the league commissioner was playing on one of the teams and he jumped right in to reinforce my call, so the dude had to sit out the rest of the game.

First time I ever threw someone out of a game.

I'm assuming it is a religious thing, though I don't quite get why religious types would care about any profanity other than taking the lord's name in vain.
