    Description:
If your sports writing goes beyond ho-hum statistics and coaches comments to provide life and excitement in your stories, you could be the next sports writer at The Dickinson Press. We're a six-day daily newspaper that has excelled in covering area high schools and a national championship NAIA college program. Going beyond the obvious in our stories is why we’re consistent winners in annual state and regional story, photography and section contests. It's this successful track record that is allowing our current sports writer to move on to bigger and better things in the Cleveland suburbs. Our current sports writer was judged the best overall journalist for 2005 in North Dakota and South Dakota by APME, and you could be the next individual to create a solid beginning for your future. Dickinson is the doorstep to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, unbeatable upland and big game hunting, fishing and nationally-recognized golf courses. Dickinson also is home to a new $12 million, 75,000-square foot aquatics and recreation center. If you understand the true meaning of community journalism and thrive on generating captivating stories while meeting or exceeding deadlines, we want to hear from you. Send your letter of application, resume, best game, feature and enterprise writing, and photography samples if possible, to Dustin Monke, sports editor, The Dickinson Press, P.O. Box 1367, Dickinson, N.D., 58602, or e-mail at dmonke@thedickinsonpress.com

"You could be the next individual to create a solid beginning for your future."

Toss in circulation around 6K, and you'll be lucky to squeeze 18K out of this bad boy. Could be a quick rise though ... if I'm not mistaken, Monke got his sheepskin within the past year ...

Decent football/basketball teams at NAIA university, two high schools in the city, some in the surrounding country, American Legion baseball, area is scenic, the Badlands are spectacular, COL is reasonable. It's cold, it's windy, it's isolated.

You could do worse. You're close enough to easily zip to Zap, and you'll also become adept at spelling German and Ukrainian last names.

Dickinson is 300 miles WEST of Fargo.

To give you an idea of how spread out the western part of the state is for a high school league. Dickinson's rivals are 100 miles away (Bismarck), 180 miles away (Minot) and 150 miles away (Williston, or Hell On Earth).

But if you're a Midwest college kid, it's a starting point.

And you'd get to write "Midgets" a lot, because that's Dickinson High's nickname.
