And only 10 months after a certain someone bragged that he "refused to let Detroit go bankrupt.

“We refused to throw in the towel and do nothing. We refused to let Detroit go bankrupt, I bet on American workers, and American ingenuity and three years later that bet is paying off in a big way.”

  3. Sorry, this wasn't politics. It was economics. A half-million people don't leave a city because over high taxes or politics. They leave because of jobs - or the lack thereof.
The auto and steel workers unions broke the automotive industry in the area to point of return.
This isn't the fault of the GOP or Dems. It was the collapse of an industry.

The people that left Detroit didn't go to Flint, or Grand Rapids .. They left. Period. Scattered to the winds to find jobs.
This was a magnified example of what happens when a large plant, upon which an entire city depends closes. In this case an industry.

You're 100 percent correct. It's economics. And the first rule of economics is you can't spend billions more than you have. It's a rule that politicians of both parties violate as naturally as they breathe. And it's a rule that was violated horrifically for the last 30-40 years in Detroit -- despite a certain charlatan claiming last October that he saved the city.

You're going to keep up this charade, tony? The rest of us are well aware that "Detroit" in Obama's context means the auto industry. Unless you are willing to also say today is the fulfillment of Mitt Romney's years-long dream expressed in the famous NYT op-ed "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt."

Anyway, I probably shouldn't have stooped to even respond, but let's get back on track with some non-political Detroit jokes, yeah? That's a tradition every American can get behind.

Is there any irony in the fact that the city that made automobiles was ruined in part by flight to the suburbs -- made all the more possible by the automobiles they were producing?

Perfect timing for the president's Martha's Vineyard vacation.
