It all started with a simple kiss...

And look at the wasteland called college basketball.

When you really think about it, and take nostalgia out of the equation, the desire to prop up college basketball as a spectator sport doesn't make a ton of sense, from a fan's standpoint. It's minor league basketball. You can watch the same guys play more games against better competition in the NBA. Isn't that more desirable?

But the NBA sucks worse. Just watch the last two minutes of each game if you have more than a passing interest in it.

Playoffs are a different story though. Those are more watchable.

The NBA is not "worse" than college basketball. That's crazy talk.

Here's what I don't think people like about the NBA:

    • Too many games to pay attention to. Eighty-two games is a lot of games. This is also the single biggest reason that people love the NFL.
    • Too much parity between teams. It's comforting and easy to know that year-in, year-out, North Carolina is going to whomp on 14 or 15 non-conference foes than to have to sort out why sometimes the Sixers might give the Cavs a game.

Requiring them to play lacrosse for a year is a good middle ground.

And even if he were right - which he's not - it's batshit lunacy that institutes of higher learning should be positioned as the way station to the league.

If you think the NBA sucks now, you must not be watching. Or, you really don't like basketball as much as you think you do.
