I'm fine with military trials in some cases (not KSM). However, they should also be held in the U.S., not Guantanamo or some other overseas military base. Gitmo has been a strategic nightmare for the U.S. in the war on al-Qaida, and Obama is correct to try to shut the place ASAP. It has been largely ineffective in prosecuting terrorists and a constant propaganda victory for our enemies.

    Especially since torture doesn't work.

YF the concern troll is amusing.

He contends we can't secure the area around a KSM trial, even though we would have time to prepare for identified threats.

Yet, concern troll, on the same hand, will criticize Obama for not doing enough to stop isolated terror threats such as the underwear bomber.

If we can't be expected to keep a known location safe from a known threat, why do you hold Obama to a higher standard in other less predictable situations?

    In English, please?

Here's my question to you. After the Christmas bombing attempt, it was admitted that we don't know enough about AQ in the Arabian Peninsula.

So, now we have one of their operatives in our hands. Why would we stop questioning him after 50 minutes?

You can't believe we got all of the information we needed from him in that time?

From the Times' article I previously linked to:

So, yes, it could be done. But throw in the concerns of the Real Estate industry and others, and tell me why it's a better option than holding a military trial at Gitmo.

Gitmo is secure and already has such facilities.

That's what's going to happen, anyway. Military trial at Gitmo. They're already hinting at it.

The only question is when do they leak/make the decision. It'll please the centrists & republicans, but tick off the left.

And the timing of the announcement will be purely political.

Welcome to the zany world of our friends on the right.

And if the trials do get moved to Guantanamo - which is what they want anyway - they'll refuse to give the Obama Administration any credit whatsoever. Whatever decision is made, they and their propaganda division at Fox will just cry "POLITICS!"

Funny how a regular civilian federal court trial was just fine for the alleged 20th hijacker - but that was when W and his crew were in charge. Really, YF ... the hypocrisy from your side is just amazing. And blatantly political.

And since you're apparently in the prognostication business these days, YF, maybe you'd like to share with us your 800 number where you've got a taped message with the results of the Super Bowl? :D

Security was not the problem and reason for change.

What it came down to was the cost and reality to how much it would tie up the city for 3 plus years.

You want to have a civil trial fine, but there are plenty of other locations where said trial could be held.

Seriously fishack-- can you ever just debate something without the snark directed towards the right?

For the most part since the mods have let a few important topics of politics be debated, most have stuck with making their point. You on the other hand want to make it a game of name calling. A sure way to leave us all without the ability talk about issues that should be discussed.

You have some good points. Why not just leave it that and keep the personal stuff to yourself.

An adjustment to one of the most misguided, irresponsible policy decisions of Obama's first year in office.
