Oh god, oh god, nooooo! [Harry Caray or Ron Santo -- your pick -- when the Cuds flame out]. And I will laugh and laugh and laugh.

    Cubs — 94-60 in a solid division.
Dodgers — 81-75 in a division of fail.

Cubs — Best batting average and highest-scoring offense in the NL.
    Dodgers — Nowhere near that.

Also, the Cubs are a close second and actually lead several NL pitching categories.

I believe in stats, not curses.

Guys, guys ... the Cubs are easily the best team in the NL and will go on to win the World Series. [/reversejinx]

I'm indifferent to the Cubs, but I do love that song -- "someday we'll go all the way" cuts to the chase, has some fun with the history and doesn't come across as hokey.

Go Cubs Go was a WGN radio jingle about 25 years ago. I don't know what caused the comeback but it started last year.

Go Cubs Go was written by the late (and very young) Steve Goodman, who died of leukemia in 1984, four days before the Cubs clinched the NL East. He also wrote A Dying Cubs Fan's Last Request.

Someone at the Cubs or WGN (not sure) heard an old album of Goodman's songs and recycled Go Cubs Go.

    That song is just awful.

I much prefer the 11-year old classic When The Cubs Win The World Series by Cleaning Ladys, a local Chicago band, who are all Cub fans.

    to listen +/or download: http://www.cleaningladys.com/mp3s/Cubs.mp3

    the Lyrics to the song:

    In the future far away

We will live in outer space

There will be a cure for cancer

    There will be one race

When the Cubs win the World Series – Ryne Sandberg will be dead

When the Cubs win the World Series – humans will have two heads

    Harry Caray’s son’s son’s son’s son’s son’s son’s son’s son

    Will do the play-by-play

Every single country in the galaxy

    Will throw their guns away

When the Cubs win the World Series – Mark Grace will be long gone

When the Cubs win the World Series – Lee Smith will still be going strong

    Pitching, hitting, fielding, running

    Everything will click

The Bleacher Bums have twenty thumbs

    They’re mutants from the sticks

    We’ll have a celebration at

The place the team calls home

    At Addison and Sheffield

    Inside the Wrigley Dome

When the Cubs win the World Series – on pay 3-D TV

When the Cubs win the World Series – wait till next century

When the Cubs, when the Cubs, when the Cubs

    Win the World Series

Jimmy Buffett, who was a friend of Goodman, played it at the close of his Wrigley Field concerts over Labor Day weekend 2006.
