Know what I took from that?

The company's still profitable, regardless of how the Harvard MBA's wanna' spin it.

What is truly remarkable - is that the board felt Gannett is doing well enough that they should keep the top job in house.

Of course it's profitable. As long as they can keep up the layoffs and furloughs, it's all good.

Profits are the fire - employees are the logs.

Yeah, that's still a net profit of over 10 percent. It was over 15 percent in 2005.

There are companies that would kill for that 10 percent.

Doing some math here, according to Hopkins' blog, there was over 52,000 employees in Gannett in 2005. Now there's about 35,000. Figure $40K per person in salary and bennies and that's $680 Mil.

So some employees probably would have had to be cut. But they could have maybe cut half that much, which would have given about a 4-5 perent base profit margin, and have a better product, which would have raised more revenue and increased the profits from there.

Nope. Just keep rewarding the five people who drove the company into the ground.

The only thing that has gone up during Dubow's time is executive compensation. That's about all you really need to know.

He's got $37 mil to do with as he pleases. Who on here wouldn't take such a deal?

Who are Gannett's big shareholders now? Why aren't they bitching about this?

He piled up millions during his six years of incompetence. How much does he need?

That 37 million could go for 1,000 jobs at $37K a year in pay and bennies. Not high-paying, but at least 1,000 people would be working and contributing to the economy.

Instead, one guy has it all. As another writer put it, how much does Dubow need to eat?
