Couponing

I will say that I typically only coupon for food with non-perishable items. I do stock up on Progresso soups when they are on sale. I end up getting them for about 25-50 cents a can and then keep them at work for lunch when I need it. Plus, they have the eduction labels that I give to a lady at work, so I see that as a double bonus as since her daughter's school gets money. I also stock up on snack items that I keep in my desk: chips, Cheese Nips, almonds, etc. A can of the Blue Diamond almonds are $3.60 here. They go on sale buy one get one free and then I use two coupons for $1 off each. That ends up being 80 cents a can or $1.60 for something that would have cost me $7.20. And of course, I do that for however many coupons I have on hand, which is usually 4-6 coupons.

I'm a junkie for the drug store extrabucks. Haven't paid for toothpaste in years, for example. When you can throw a coupon on top of those and make a 50-cent profit, jackpot. (It's the little things in life, right?)

One thing I always say I'm going to do, but never do, is take advantage of all the giftcard deals at restaurants this time of year. Buy a $50 card, get a $10 card free, etc. I'll do one or two but I oughta throw $500 at those. Easier said than done.

I try to use coupons, but most of it is for junk food and shit we don't eat (stuff that isn't the greatest for you). I don't mind coupons for non-food stuff (razors, TP, paper towels), but I never seem to find coupons for stuff I actually need.

The TV show is Extreme Couponing and the people on it are given liberties that normal shoppers wouldn't get. Most of the time they have to have multiple checkouts (some as high as 20 or so) to get their whole order processed but if you or I were to try it, you would have to actually leave the store and come back for each order.

Still, there is money to be saved (though as it has been pointed out, a lot of time it is for stuff you don't want to buy a lot of).

My sister has saved $11,000 couponing in the last 12 months (the number is available on her receipt each time she buys something).

As for me, I came across a bunch of BOGO coupons today that should get me about 50 free candy bars (which is exactly what I need).

For some reason...WalMart won't take my coupon:

I do that. There are a couple of local spots where I could justifiably forward my mail, and they both use this gimmick. I go to one of them 50-60 times a year, so I'd be crazy not to take advantage.

I buy myself gift cards at this time of year. usually just two or three restaurants, but if they are going to buy me a free meal, I'll take it.

My daughter asked what I wanted for Xmas, and all I could think of was a Kindle gift card.

Of course, after Dec. 14 surgery, I'm not hitting any restaurants for a while anyway. ;)

No joke. A few days ago, we bought a giant bag of cat food, a birthday card, a candy bar, and Neosporin for $3. Thank you, Walgreens.
