    Ladies and gents:
This should be posted soon at APSE and jjobs. Just wanted to get the word out. We are looking to fill this pretty quickly.
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask.

    SPORTS COPY EDITOR/DESIGNER

Sauk Valley Newspapers, a 23,000 circulation daily in northern Illinois and member of the Shaw Newspapers group, seeks a sharp-minded copy editor with an eye for design to round out our six-person sports team. Experience is preferred, but a strong portfolio and the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment will warrant our consideration.

This is an excellent opportunity for a forward-thinking, creative individual ready to share our vision of great sports journalism. Our 12-page weekly high school football tab is a hit. Our preseason football tab was just named one of the 10 best in the country by the Associated Press Sports Editors for papers under 40,000. Local sports are the priority and excellence is a must every day.
    Think you can help?
We want someone with strong editing skills first, design chops second and the ability to write the occasional story third.

Experience with pagination, QuarkXPress and Photoshop are required, along with night and weekend work. Knowledge of AP style is a must.
We are located two hours from downtown Chicago and about an hour from the Quad Cities and Rockford.

Send cover letter, resume and five clips (PDFs preferred) to sports editor Paul Skrbina, Sauk Valley Newspapers, P. O. Box 498, Sterling, IL 61081 or email to pskrbina@svnmail.com.

Sauk Valley Newspapers offers a competitive salary, good benefits package including health, dental & life insurance, 401(k) and growth opportunities within Shaw Newspapers, a family-owned newspaper company. We are an equal opportunity employer; background check and drug screen required.

Paul Skrbina and I were in the same APSE judging group. He is very passionate about the business, and would be great to work for.
