    BASIC FUNCTION: To serve the primary point of contact for sports media and information, leveraging communications channels for advancement of the sport and its participants.

    To promote and elevate the profile of USATF through traditional, digital and social media and serve as press officer at USATF domestic events and Team USATF International events.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Serves as press officer at USATF domestic events and Team USATF International events. Includes media credentialing, pre-event promotion, roster announcements, on-site coverage and media services

    • Manages USATF social media event coverage and collaborates on strategy, content and fan engagement

    • Proactively pitches stories, with special emphasis on national teams; fields media inquiries

    • Writes and edits and press releases and stories related to all facets of USATF

    • Writes and maintains athlete biographies

    • Manages USATF Hall of Fame selection process

    • Ensures timeliness and accuracy of posted USATF statistical lists

    • Maintains departmental databases – credentialing, email, events, biographies

    • Facilitate USATF’s Athlete of the Week program

    • Other duties as assigned
    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 3-5 years’ experience in sports information, communications or PR field.

    • Demonstrated experience in media services and press officer duties; track & field specific experience strongly preferred

    • Demonstrated expertise in effective social media usage, growth in social media followers, and fan engagement

    • Strong writing and speaking skills

    • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, organizational skills and ability to produce results in a fast-paced environment

    • Understanding of the sport of track and field or a similar Olympic sport strongly preferred

    • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel and Access as well as Adobe Creative Suite

    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and handle large amounts of quantitative and qualitative data

    • Bachelor’s degree

    • Must be able to pass a background check
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Be able to lift 20+lbs. Able to stand for long periods of time and walk distances at events – mixed zone and on-field.

    NON-PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Weekend and evening work; frequent national and international travel required.

    An old colleague of mine had this job several years ago. Sounded like a ton of work but he had great stories from traveling all over the world.
