The Fort Wayne (IN.) Journal Gazette, a 40,000 daily and 65,000 Sunday morning newspaper, has an immediate opening for a college beat reporter who has at least a year of experience at a daily newspaper, can produce a mix of game stories, features and enterprise, show sound news judgment and demonstrate an ability to engage readers daily with social media such as Facebook, Twitter and blogs. The successful applicant will be the lead reporter for Notre Dame football and Indiana basketball and a Low-A minor league baseball team. Occasional high school assignments, feature and preview stories, general assignment stories/shifts and Recreation page stories. Strong communication and organizational skills are necessary. Posting and updating blogs daily and on game days as well as using Twitter is required. Videos skills a must as well as taking occasional photos.

We cover Notre Dame, Indiana, Purdue, the Indy 500, Brickyard 400, several minor league teams and some 40 high schools in a nine-county region. Send resume, a mix of six game stories, features and enterprise, online history and a cover letter explaining what you’d bring to our sports section to Mark Jaworski, Sports Editor, The Journal Gazette, 600 W. Main St., Fort Wayne, IN., 46802

The Journal Gazette is an EOE.

A lot of cool assignments for such a small publication. Ft. Wayne is over 90 minutes away from both IU and Notre Dame, however. Hope they expense all your gas...

If I hadn't just booked Toledo I might have tried Fort Wayne out. Great city, lots of sports and entertainment options.

More like three-plus hours to IU. But a very good gig in an inexpensive place to live.

I think in five years or so, many more people will know this reporter's name. Good hire for Fort Wayne.

First airplane ride I ever took was to job interview in Fort Wayne in 1983.

Close to three months just to hire someone who already covers the Hoosiers. Never change, print media, never change.
