College basketball is turning into Euro soccer.

The game was not meant to be played the way control freak coaches are now dictating.

In the early days of football, before and during Red Grange's day, coaching during the game was a penalty. That could be brought back. Make the sonsabitches stay in the locker room during games.

No timeouts or intentional fouls in the last five minutes of the game. Run the court. Play the game.

Calling intentional fouls as, yes, intentional fouls would speed up games, but probably cut way down on comeback victories.

Actually, college basketball coaches were prohibited from coaching during game action until 1949. I guess the only times they were supposed to talk to players was at halftime. From what I've read of the situation, the rule was changed because it was being widely flouted anyway.

Amazingly, the kings of the slowdown, the Badgers, put up 81 points yesterday. This is the most fun Badger team to watch in ages.

Good analogy ! College football has speed up and the brakes have been slammed on college basketball.

In college football control freak coaches like Saban have been forced to adapt to the faster game.

With one and done basketball players and those who stay 3 or even 4 years looked down upon, the college basketball coach is the face and name of the game. And they have taken it to heart and imposed not only their game plan onto the game but their face. Pacing the sidelines, yelling, making demonstrative gestures on every possession its about the coach, not the players.

Pitino's been prancing around on the court for 25 years now.
A lot of that stuff has his stamp all over it.

Rollie, Lou and Big John in the original Big East. At first it was fun and endearing, then Thompson thought he was Ghandi and Rocky rolled into one.

Of course, Pitino lasts only 15 seconds, so then you can get back to the game.
