This week's top games, featuring the SportsJournalists.com poll, Sportsbook.ag's early lines and p.m. Eastern times:

    Thursday, Oct. 4

No. 13 Southern California (-14) at Utah, 9, ESPN
Monte Kiffin is excited to visit Salt Lake City's jazz clubs.

    Friday, Oct. 5

Pittsburgh (-2) at Syracuse, 7, ESPN
The Big East says the ACC should take credit for this shitshow.

Utah State at Brigham Young (-7), 10:15, ESPN
All the Mormons will be drinking in complete moderation for this one.

    Saturday, Oct. 6

Navy at Air Force (-10), 11:30 a.m., CBS
The Falcons are hurting from their exclusion in a Sheep question this week. Why does copperpot hate the Air Force?

Kansas at No. 8 Kansas State (-24), 12, ESPN
Charlie Weiss heard he was going to Manhattan and started drooling over images of floppy slices of pizza.

No. 22 Northwestern at Penn State (-3), 12, ESPN
It's about time a Big Ten powerhouse put Penn State in its sanctioned-as-fuck place again.

Connecticut at No. 24 Rutgers (-9), 12, ESPNU
Nothing screams BCS conference football like a half-empty stadium in New Jersey.

    Arkansas at Auburn (-10), 12, ESPN2
To be clear: Northwestern, ranked; Rutgers, ranked; Arkansas and Auburn, not receiving votes. Makes my heart melt.

Michigan State (-15½) at Indiana, 12, Big Ten Network
Mark Dantonio would have a heart attack if the Spartans lost this game.

No. 20 Mississippi State (-10½) at Kentucky, 12:21
Dan Mullen will not talk about injuries. That includes the broken hearts of Wildcats fans, shattering more with each loss to a ranked opponent.

Arizona at No. 18 Stanford (-9½), 3, Fox
Rich Rodriguez doesn't think Josh Nunes is getting a fair rap.

No. 4 LSU (-2½) at No. 11 Florida, 3:30, CBS
Les Miles has a plan, you see. Les Miles has a plan that starts with eating grass and ends with poorly managed timeouts and a miraculous touchdown. Les Miles has a plan to win because winners win and Les Miles is a lot of things and one of them is a winner.

Georgia Tech at No. 15 Clemson (-10), 3:30, ESPN
I'm not sure Paul Johnson will have much of an option soon.

Iowa State at No. 14 Texas Christian (-11), 3:30
The Horned Frogs stubbornly refuse to abandon defense like their new conferencemates.

    No. 15 Oklahoma (-5) at Texas Tech, 3:30, ESPN2
One of these teams is undefeated because of staunch defense. The other stars a system quarterback just waiting to get sacked or throw an interception on every play.

Michigan (-3) at Purdue, 4, Big Ten Network
Ghosts of Grieses past will haunt this game, complaining of its near-irrelevance.

Washington State at No. 17 Oregon State (-15½), 6
Mike Riley and Mike Leach already are planning an India Pale Ale tour of the Pacific Northwest.

No. 5 Georgia at No. 6 South Carolina (-2), 7, ESPN
Steve Spurrier's next mission is to lobby for Mark Richt's firing and succeed.

No. 7 West Virginia at No. 9 Texas (-6½), 7, Fox
Geno Smith once went to Texas. Killed a dozen men. Scored 30 touchdowns. Moved on with life.

    Vanderbilt at Missouri (-7), 7
The college newspaper stories will be better than the game.

Miami (Fla.) vs. No. 10 Notre Dame (-13), in Chicago, 7:30, NBC
The ACC is getting weird these days.

No. 3 Florida State (-14½) at North Carolina State, 8, ESPN2
Florida State and Jimbo Fisher still might suck. It won't matter in ACC play, though.

No. 21 Nebraska at No. 12 Ohio State (-3½), 8, ABC
Has anyone checked how many hours Urban Meyer has worked this week? He simply must'nt go beyond his curfew.

    No. 24 UCLA (-3) at California, 11
Jim L. Mora is fucking sick of being called "Junior."

    Washington at No. 2 Oregon (-24), 11:30
Mike Riley and Mike Leach, drunk off IPA and bourbon, will watch this game while shooting paint balls at the screen.

    First impressions...

    Clemson -10
    Texas +6.5
    Georgia +2
And I really want to like Miami +13, but who the hell knows with that one. Not sure I trust Morris at night in South Bend.

Excellent work as always, but one thing: Texas is the 6.5-point favorite, not WVU.

Since quoting this post seems to be the thing to do.....

Also, I'll grab WVU and the points now.

Texas is going to win. But it might be by three points.

That's a damn good line. I'll likely stay away. Will be interesting to see if it moves and how much.

Northwestern vs. Purdue in the Big 10 conference championship. This could be the year, folks!

I will find a way to get to Indianapolis if this happens. And plenty of good seats will be available.

11:30 ET kickoff for Navy-Air Force? That's 9:30 a.m. local ... what is this, Pop Warner?
