thoughts that don't mean squat ...

5 years ago, no one outside of boise and (whatever town bowling green is in) would've cared about this kind of meaningless game. it's still kind of odd how boise state has become a power player so fast. the funny thing is, you can almost feel how about 99 percent of SportsJournalists.commers are just waiting for the broncs to lose a game like this to scream FRAUD! i say it's close after 3 quarters before boise wins by 10 or more. ...

my gut feeling is that joepa keeps scores under the line on purpose. i haven't seen the lions this season, but i have a tough time believing psu couldn't throttle akron, cuse and temple. well, they did, but paterno called off the horses early to run out the clock. if you're up 31-6, why rub it in? that's how i read the situation. that said, penn state will beat iowa by 28 or more. ...

cocks pound ole miss (coming soon to a porn shop near you). ...

it would be very funny to see michigan run the table a year after the worst season in wolverines history. then rich rodriguez would be a hero in ann arbor and yadda yadda.

It'd be funny but I think they're too young to do that. Plus if Texas and almost any other BCS team runs it, they're surely not going in because of their weak schedule. OSU and PSU at home in the Big Ten, two MAC teams and a 1AA. I'm interested to see if Miami runs it. They have a brutal schedule, though.

  6. Ferentz is still at Iowa. Carr is long gone and so is the UM dominance over PSU - for the time being anyway.
Either way I'm sticking with Iowa to cover. Easily.

People don't love Boise. They hate the BCS. That's why Boise gets so much love. BCS haters desperately want the BCS to go away so they blow any MWC, WAC, CUSA, MAC or Sun Belt school that starts out 2-0 and scream that they deserve a shot at the title. Then, in most years, those teams fall by the wayside.

Once in a great while a Utah or a Boise pops up and smacks a Big East team or a legit team that sleepwalks thru the first half of its bowl game and that's supposed to be justification for scrapping the whole system.

That's what was so hilarious about the BYU thing. They beat a team with four new O-line starters that was missing it's top offensive weapon and lost its QB at the half and it's supposed to be the win that legitimizes BYU as a "BCS Buster" whatever the fuck that is.

Actually, Louisville and WVU played on a Thursday night when they were both in the top 10. Oregon State and USC has been a nationally televised game recently, whether its on FSN or ESPN on Thursday nights. Shit, about 10 years ago ESPN had a Thursday night game at 7:30 that was followed by a PAC 10 game on Fox at 10:30.

AQB: You friggin ignore the gaggle of losses to MAC teams and I-AA teams the Big Ten has had the last few years, then say that Utah's win over Alabama and Boise's win over Oklahoma were given to them by opponent indifference. By what objective standard can you do this accurately? Because of how something was 30 years ago? And that's not even true; BYU has been frequently beating teams from BCS conferences for decades, and Fresno State beat several name BCS teams over the years.

I admit that in general, SEC/Big 12/Pac-10/Big Ten? teams are up and down better than Mountain West or WAC teams. But that doesn't mean any success by a Mountain West or WAC team is a fluke, and that one of those teams should never be considered for the national title.

Where did I mention the Big 10 in that last post?

My point is that too many people are quick to jump on the first non-BCS school that gets off to a fast start because they "hate" the BCS and want it to fail. The pimping of BYU after it beat OU was a prime example of this. Was it a big win for BYU? Sure. Did it make them an instant national title contender? Not if you were paying attention.

Now that the Cougars and Utah have lost everybody is jumping on Boise's bandwagon. Once they get beat people will move on to TCU or Houston.

That said, Cougar High could be the last to fall. They find a way to get by Tech and they could run the table.

But I wouldn't put them in the championship game ahead of an unbeaten BCS conference team.
