I do think Ole Miss being in the mix played a factor.

And Miss St as well. Could really put him in tough position that he probably never expected to happen in a million years.

Probably made the pain worse. :)

    Florida State
    Notre Dame
    SEC Champ
Oregon if they win out or SEC runner up (If Ole Miss beats MSU in the egg bowl and Alabama wins out, who wins the SEC West and plays Georgia?)

The other purpose of the committee rankings is to serve as a trial balloon. This is its first year of operations and they're making it up as they go (that was the plan). But if there is going to be ferocious blowback WITHIN the college football structure over some propositions (two teams from SEC, Big Ten champ over Notre Dame, just to name a couple), better to know about it by Halloween than take the hit on December 8.

Didn't entirely agree with Wetzel but he made some solid points.

    Quite possibly.

But wouldn't the same hold true for basketball?

What "legitimate claim" did seventh-seeded UConn have as the best basketball team last season . . . other than winning a tournament with dozens of teams?

These rankings are going to bite the committee in the ass, they might sell some trucks and Taco Bell, but they'd be better off sending out a "watch list." Come the end of the season when they have to seed the thing it's going to cause all sorts of ruckus. One thing that might be nice is if any at-large team is in the final four, they are the automatic fourth-seed.
