Colin Kaepernick-less edition of the NFL Week 1 Thread

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by Evil ... Thy name is Orville Redenbacher!!, Sep 5, 2017.

  1. Chiefs-Pats is a good opener. One of the Patriots toughest games this season.
Giants-Cowboys is another marquee matchup, along with Seattle-Green Bay.
Ravens-Bengals and Cardinals/Lions should be interesting.

Not too excited about the MNF slate.

    Chargers-Broncos should be good.

like that panthers and falcons open on the road. if both were home those games would probably be easy wins. both should still win, but think there's a better chance of a decent game.

Most of Chicago is hoping the Falcons knock the opposing quarterback out of the game after intercepting his first five passes.

Hate to say this but Hoyer looked decisive at times and the 49ers will actually run a modern offense with passes more than 10 yds downfield. Also, appears that Shanahan has eliminated the 3 yd TE out on 3rd and 8 (Gabbert's gone and Kap, well his lack of accuracy and secondary reads was brutal IMHO). 49ers may even have a decent chance on Sunday against the Panthers.

Those do look like some good games; Pats-Chiefs; Cowboys-Giants; Sea-GB.

Hoyer is one of the best backups in the league and very serviceable for limited stints as a starter. If he can stay healthy -- HUGE IF -- he will put up good numbers in Shanahan's system. Might not translate to a bunch of wins, but Hoyer is a relatively good placeholder for whomever takes over in Frisco in the next year or two.

From his time in Cleveland, I always thought if an average NFL starter is a QB1 and a back-up is a QB2, Brian Hoyer is a QB1.7.

Did you ever see Gabbert? On this scale I've been watching a 3.5

Might have been mentioned on the Irma thread, but Bucs at Dolphins has been postponed. Decision coming Wednesday on whether to play it at a neutral site, on Monday night, or in November when both teams have a bye week.
From the forecast, playing it in Tampa probably isn't an option. Jacksonville, Carolina, Atlanta and New Orleans are all on the road, though. Would be a neat historical footnote if the first regular-season NFL game played in the Falcons' new stadium did not involve the Falcons.

Also, this makes the Dolphins' home opener Oct. 8 because they play a London "home" game. They have two games in Miami before Nov. 5.

NFL says Sunday’s Dolphins game won’t be in Miami; league considering options

Six game suspension upheld for Elliott upheld. Would think that's a good job by the NFL and Goodell, taking a stand against domestic violence. Interested in how NFL columnists will view this. Seemed that Taggyboo was universally loved, but all that's wrong with the NFL gets blamed on Goodell.
